ROBOCON'18

This year started with a bang. GRT had gained popularity and more-n-more students want to be part of the team. 500+ students applied for the selection procedure. This year’s team has students from twenty-seven GTU affiliated colleges which is a success in itself. We are able to bring more talented students together and work on the same platform. This year’s challenges are on their apex but at the same time we GRTains are all set to fire the stadium another time. This time it’s not about defeating the experts, it is ‘VICTORY TO VIETNAM’.

About Theme

Once again ABU Robocon bringing the tradition and technology together in a fun way showcasing the culture of the country. This time the hosting country, Vietnam picked up their theme from a game called ‘Shuttlecock Throwing’. For ABU Robocon 2018, teams have to make two robots, one will be a Manual Robot and the other Autonomous Robot. Manual Robot picking up the Shuttlecocks made by the team themselves and handing it to the Autonomous Robot. Then the Autonomous Robot has to navigate himself to the Throwing Zone, swing the shuttlecock and try to pass it through the ring placed at the top of the pole. After successfully passing the shuttlecock through the ring from Throwing Zone One and Two, the Autonomous Robot travels to Throwing Zone Three and aims to pass the Golden Shuttlecock through the Golden ring and land inside the Golden Cup. As the Golden shuttle lands in the Golden Cup, the team wins and this win is called ‘RONGBAY’. If either team doesn’t succeed in placing the Golden Shuttlecock in the Golden Cup, the team with the higher score wins the game.

Team 2018

With the advent of another season on ABU Robocon, the GRT members had all the prerequisites that were required to head start for this season. The team members did not wait for the theme to be released and started their recruitment procedure for the year. Since this time team had sufficient inventory, the experienced students focused on training all the prerequisites to the newly recruited members so that they could equally contribute to the team. This year’s theme required very high programming skill as one of the robots was autonomous. The Electronic students very pleasantly handled the work. Similarly, the mechanical students have to brainstorm on some of the classic motion planning, pick and place mechanisms and other fabrication techniques which made the robot efficient, light weighted and fast in its task.
